Wine Inspired DIY Halloween Costumes

It’s about halfway through October, have you picked your Halloween costume yet? If not, why not pick your costume based on your go-to after-work drinks. I have matched six different wines with a simple DIY costume that you can go all-in on or just pick some random odds and ends you probably already have in your closet. These wine themed Halloween costumes are best with a glass of your favorite wine in hand, you know, as an accessory.

1. Wonder Woman or Amazonian Warrior for Sparkling Wine Lovers

Nothing says classy but can mess you up fast like a woman who can kill you with her bare arms. For this wine Halloween costume, you either need a little black dress or a golden dress, whatever your (or a friend’s) closet has available. Then brown leather rope or belt for your waist and some boots. If you feeling extra adventurous, add a sword, shield, or cape to finish off the look.

2. Disney Princess for Dessert Wine Lovers

Dessert wines were once revered as the most luxurious wines one could drink. Tokaji Aszú from Hungary is known as “the king of wine, and the wine of kings.” These sweet and royal wines are perfectly paired with a Disney Princess costume. If it’s cold where you are around Halloween, then grab some tights to match your skin tone, if not just go ahead and skip the tights. Then just throw on a huge oversized T-shirt to match your favorite princesses aesthetic; Pink for Sleeping Beauty, Yellow for Belle, Green for Ariel or Tiana, and Purple for Rapunzel). Grab a belt, cinch it right at your waist. Then go out with the sparkly eye shadow and a cute tiara from a children’s toy store or a local accessory shop. Easy-peasy!

3. Little Red Riding Hood for Red Sangria Lovers

For a red sangria, I think a little red riding hood is your best option. She has a fire-red cape and a basket full of fruits to share with her grandmother. She’s a bit of an airhead but wins out at the end of the story. If dresses aren’t your thing, go with a back tee shirt and black skirt/shorts/leggings. Give your hair a bit of a curl and get that iconic red cape. Using a flannel material for the cape would be perfect for a cold climate to keep you warm or if you wanna stay cool, go with a red silky material instead. Grab a basket from the kitchen and you’re all set.

4. Greek Goddess Demeter for White Sangria Lovers

If you’re more of a white sangria type, I would say go with a Demeter costume, as the goddess of the harvest herself is a perfect pairing. A white dress, a flower crown (lean more into the grapevines and greenery instead of your standard wildflowers), and some strappy sandals, and you are ready to go!

5. Black Swan for Merlot Lovers

Nothing says I don’t give a F*ck like the berry bursting flavor of Merlot, the word literally translates to blackbird really gives me full blown black swan vibes. This would be a perfect opportunity to go full out elegant, yet evil ballerina. Grab a black leotard and tutu, go a bit wild on the moody makeup, and glue on feathers wherever you can find room.

6. Scarecrow for Pinot Grigio Lovers

With its undertones of apple and pear this just makes me think of going to the local farm and apple/pumpkin picking every fall. I would recommend going as a tried-and-true scarecrow! You cannot beat a simple but cozy flannel and jeans with a few crosses hatch on your cheeks for a completed look. Maybe even run to the local market for a few strands of dried wheat if you feel extra committed.
